O-I, Hamlet, NC, was recently challenged by OPI, a producer of nail lacquer, to include the OPI embossing on its trademark black phenol closure.

The closure could not be oriented to fit the 15mL glass container on the old O-I rotary presses.  Fortunately, the process engineering staff at O-I was successful in finding  a low-cost method to orient the molds so the OPI closure embossing aligned  with the front decorated label panel of each container.

O-I also had to meet OPI’s dimensional  specifications, as well aesthetic and functional requirements, while using a  reformulated phenol resin.
